who are we?

Social Fiber Association began its work informally in December 2021, and then became an officially registered civil organization in 2022 February. We organize weekly workshops and biannual and annual camps for minors from vulnerable groups. Our programs aim to strengthen the autonomy of children and young people, as well as to create opportunities for deepening their engagement through artistic activities, whilst various playful activities provide suitable opportunities for connecting with animals, learning about their own rights, and practicing responsibility and nonviolent communication.

Currently, the organization works with three employed staff members, five permanent volunteers, and a larger returning volunteer team of 20–25 people.

  • We hold weekly activities in Pata-Rât (for ages 4–18) and in a children’s home in Cluj (for ages 7–20).
  • Twice a year, in partnership with the Mumush World Association, we organize our inclusive eco-art camp called Mumush Kids Camp in Adrianu Mic (Mureș County, Romania), where we welcome Romanian, Hungarian, and Roma children from families and children’s homes, as well as from urban and rural areas.
  • Each year we organize a creative camp in partnership with the Tomash Pottery ceramics studio, called the Tomash Pottery Camp, where we welcome Ukrainian refugee families living in Romania.
  • Our newest project, PatArt Project is a camp organized for children from Pata-Rât, where we aim to offer community-building programs using experiential education methods.
  • In addition we organize biannual youth worker training sessions for our volunteers and for members of other civil organizations engaged in similar work in order to ensure that the work carried out with children and young people is as well-grounded and safe as possible.

Social Fiber is a horizontally organized group in which every staff member and participant plays an equally important role in decision-making. The association has built a network of professionals working in various artistic fields who have relevant pedagogical experience and are committed to supporting disadvantaged young people.

We are convinced that the fate of our planet lies in the hands of children and young people, which is why it greatly matters what values we pass on to them and how we help them become responsible, supportive, nature-respecting, honest, inventive, persistent, compassionate, flexible adults who can face difficulties with courage.

we aim to provide kids and teenagers with practical tools that support the development of their individual and community resilience, help them build coping mechanisms, improve their conflict-management skills, and enhance their quality of life and social well-being.

Through our programs, they can become part of a community and a space where they can develop their self-image and goals, learn through experience, have the opportunity to speak up and debate, as well as discover and understand the importance of presence.

In these programs, a broad team of professionals and volunteers works with children and young people from diverse social backgrounds in the long term, without interruption, because only in this way can we sustain a relationship of trust and represent a value-oriented attitude in the face of the all-pervasive mindset of consumer society. We also aim for the children and young people who participate in our programs to reconnect with the association’s activities in adulthood, as volunteers or as mentors.

The name of our association is meant to express the recognition that everyone is needed, that we are all connected to one another in a thousand different ways, and that we are all part of the larger social fabric.
